For this weeks assignment we will be taking a deep dive into one of Microsoft newest technologies "holoportation" as well as some previous technologies we have seen and interacted with in class.
In the video we see this demo of an explosive new technology i myself have never seen before. It starts off with the main narrator interacting and teleporting his colleague into the room along with him interacting with environments in the colleagues space totally different from the area the narrator is in. we see the colleague be able to interact with stuff around him and make a really immersive experience. we also see the narrator show this technologies capabilities with his daughter who is also in a separate room. She interacts with the environment around him and even jumps in the air as if she is in the room along with him. This really demonstrates the intensive tractability of these cameras and there ability to quickly catch and integrate the three dimension imaging across the internet. It opens up the possibility of a new form of communication that breaks the distance barrier we have with loved ones. Imagine being able to communicate and interact with loved ones across the world and who are not able to make the long trip to you. That changes now as the limits could be endless. Now what seems like a good thing could always be bad as, with this type of technology making us more prone to be distant and reduce our ideal of actual human interaction. We give up this form of actual human touch to the virtual world and we start seeing a rise an depression and suicide rates due to extreme social isolation. aside from the human side effect there is also the extremely disoriented appearances of almost ghost like which is disorienting and not really human like which also kills the whole human to human interaction. There is also the actual cost which this camera technology still in prototype phase and the Hololens2 now cost about $3,500 which is on the pricey side.
This kind of technology kinda relates to how we did the first week of class demoing the Hololens and the camera rendering being all kinds of flaking as well the interactions with it like we did when we were picking up the book and droping it on the shelf and stuff was still spoty at best. Not reading hand gestures that properly. In conclusion this type of technology although in its infancy and still being improved on, in its current state needs to be more considered towards the open market as the human cost and effect need to addressed heavily. But its ability and tracking reading is something of immense proportion. It is a big step in the right direction but the conversation now must be more reflected on the basic human needs, not just exploitative.
