Week 3

Google Translate AR capabilities have enormous contribution to the understanding of knowledge that we have ever seen before. One way is being able to be in constant communication with each other, this is achieved by the simple notion that a person seeing foreign text can now possess the ability to know what they are reading and its an important factor to life because reading is an important thing to do just survival alone. We will no linger have that traveler who if they get lost doesn’t know how to find there way out in a foreign land. Its also helps a basic communication level to as we ever so becoming more distant and more disconnected from each other this notion and ability now gives us a chance to not only talk but interact with a person of different languages like we have never seen before.

With smart phones growing ever more powerful to think about the future possible applications for this kind of technology is limitless but it would put us in very dire and serious situations. One thing being that we would lose this drive for knowledge because why should we try to learn or think on our feet when we have technology like this to do that for us. It leaves us vulnerable in that moments that we hold dear are now all of a sudden available and accessible by everyone. Things like calligraphy which is known and admired for its beauty all of a sudden becomes these things that are blurred out and simply translate over them. We start to lose our appreciation of the way languages look and sound. We lose our sense of identity and start to lose what it means to truly appreciate a culture. Although others may argue things like this only elevate language making the ease to understand and learn become instantaneous instead of current traditional methods. It also allows for a sort of self-dependence feeling to it as well, feeling good that you were able to solve and understand the language without someone’s help.

In terms of how much control the user should have it really seams like its dependent on the situation but for the most part mostly no control over it. The reason for this is that the program in this instance has the unbiased view of the language meaning. People in general are biased and language is one of the biggest and most important ways of expressing thoes ideas, so if the person expresses a biased not shared by others it leads to bigger discourse and problems.
