For standard seven, I chose to showcase my greenhouse redesign project I did as a final for a greenhouse management class at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This assignment was to take a greenhouse and redesign it so it was up to industry standards and better suited for students as well as the community. This involved creating a new layout for a greenhouse that would be more efficient and safe for students to work in this facility. Also, the project attached highlights what classes can make use of this greenhouse, which encourages more than just the greenhouse management class to use this facility. This project shows how physical structural components support learning while students are using safe and appropriate methods to use and maintain this educational space. Having a greenhouse for students to be active in is not only beneficial because of the hands-on components, but also allows a new and different method of delivery for students. Instead of sitting in a classroom looking at photos of plants, with a well-maintained facility, students can go outside and expand their knowledge in a new and engaging way. Also, having a safe facility held to industry standards can introduce students to career practices and requirements. Keeping an industry-level facility will benefit all those who come in contact with this structure while also helping the school district as a whole.
