This lesson is pulled from a unit about plasma cutting. These materials cover the topics of the different key ideas, equipment, and processes of a plasma cutter. The lesson and skill sheet attached cover the specific setup, position, angle, and travel speed that were selected to follow the 2024 AFNR Power, Structural, and Technical Systems Standards. I have pulled three specific standards that show the standard-aligned and integrated curriculum. PST.01.02.02.c. is to design a process to implement the safe use of AFNR-related tools, machinery, and equipment. This can be seen in the lesson when I demo the process and discuss all of the specific aspects of safety to remember when using a plasma cutter. PST.02.02.01.b. is to perform pre-operation inspections, start-up, and shut-down procedures on equipment, machinery, and power units as specified in the manufacturer’s manuals. This can be seen in the first step of this lesson, where I will go over the specifics of a plasma cutter, like air, ground clamp, and electricity, and how to attach all of these items correctly. Another standard that relates to this specific lesson is PST.04.03.01.c. This is utilizing tools and equipment necessary for site preparation, surveying, and site layout. This standard can be seen when the teacher and students evaluate the shop and check for safety hazards. This material incorporates employability skill standards that help students succeed in the workplace, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and workplace etiquette.
