EDUC 3010 - Practicum I
"This practicum focuses on professional responsibilities, planning for learning, facilitating learning, assessment, and the classroom environment. Students are required to participate in a weekly seminar. Students will be directly involved in all aspects of teaching for 50% of the required time during their last three weeks of the practicum."
EDUC 3104 - Arts Integration in Elementary Education
"Students will learn how to integrate the fine and performing arts into the elementary classroom. Students will examine current theories and practices in arts education, and will develop creative skills associated with each of the fine and performing arts. Drawing upon this knowledge, and within the context of the STEAM semester, students will design and apply integrated learning experiences that enrich student learning."
Focusing on STEAM helped me design integrated learning experiences that connect arts with other subjects, fostering critical thinking and collaboration. Overall, this approach will create a dynamic, inclusive environment where every student feels empowered to explore their creativity and enhance their learning.
EDUC 3108 - Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Mathematics
"This course explores knowledge and skills required to implement programs of studies in teaching Mathematics in elementary schools. The course will address a range of approaches to develop instruction, plan units of study, integrate curriculum, and develop resources and assessment strategies to meet students’ needs."
In this course I was able to explore how developing tailored resources and effective assessment strategies will help me address individual learning needs and improve student outcomes, ultimately fostering a more confident and effective teaching practice.
EDUC 3106 - Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Science
"This course provides an introduction to the teaching and learning of Science in elementary schools. The course will focus on instruction, planning and facilitating learning experiences, integrating curriculum, creating and utilizing resources and developing assessment strategies to meet students' needs."
This course helped me enhance my teaching career by introducing effective methods for teaching science in elementary schools, with a focus on nature-based learning. It allowed me to gain skills in instruction and planning that facilitate engaging, hands-on learning experiences outdoors.
EDUC 3326 - Understanding Current and Emerging Pedagogical Technologies
"This course provides an overview of technological influences in education. It is designed to assist prospective teachers in critically examining current and evolving applications of technology relevant to the teaching and learning process."
This course helped me learn to critically examine current and evolving applications of technology, helping me to effectively integrate these tools into my teaching practice. This understanding enables me to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes while preparing me to adapt to future advancements in educational technology. Ultimately, I am better equipped to create an interactive and dynamic learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students.

EDUC 2375 - Effective Assessment
"This course is designed to assist students in developing an understanding of concepts and issues related to the differentiated assessment of learning. Participants will develop competence in the construction of various instruments and processes used to measure and evaluate individual learner performance. Students are required to participate in a field experience which will inform assignments and context related to teaching and assessing learning experiences."
This course has shown me many different strategies of assessment and how each school districts assess in different ways. It challenged previous beliefs about assessment and emphasized the importance of being open-minded about different assessment strategies.
EDUC 2321 - Education and Individual Development
"This course examines human behaviour, focusing on physical, emotional, cognitive, moral and social development. Emphasis is placed on understanding classroom implications of motivation, memory, learning styles, student diversity, principles of reinforcement, and aspects of learning. Students are required to participate in relevant field experience."
This class has been life-changing and has taken my classroom management skills to a new level. I have a much deeper understanding of what strategies will benefit my students best and how to create a positive classroom environment. Along with these important skills, I have also learned the importance of organization whether that be in the classroom or the mind it benefits you and the students to have both organized.
EDUC 2103 - Program of Studies and Curriculum Instruction in Teaching English Language Arts
"This course explores the knowledge and skills required to implement programs of studies in teaching English Language Arts in elementary schools. Students are required to participate in relevant field experience. The field experience will be used to inform assignments and context such as instructional methodologies, unit planning, curriculum integration and resource development. Students will investigate a range of assessment strategies."
Similar to the course I took in the previous semester relating to English language arts, this course has continued to deepen my knowledge of how to assess student's literary skills. This course has been very influential in giving me the tools to support my students with their English language arts skills in a variety of ways that are engaging and support multiple learning styles.
EDUC 2371 - Language Development and Literacy
"This course focuses upon language development and the importance of literacy. Students will examine certain principles of learning in order to gain understanding as to how language development occurs as well as to determine best practice in teaching language and literacy. The field experience will be literacy focused, including small group instruction and assessment."
This language development and literacy course has given me the tools to better assist my students with their literacy skills and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of literacy skills. Developing a student's language skills will help in every aspect of their lives and I hope to continue to strengthen literacy skills for my students with the information I learned in this course.
EDUC 2201 - Teacher Wellness
"Building a healthy school community using the comprehensive school health approach can positively impact both students and staff. In this course, pre-service teachers will gain an understanding of how they can address their personal wellness as new teachers, and learn how to build a healthy school community that addresses the wellness needs of a diverse student body."
This teacher wellness course delved deep into the importance of taking care of your well-being and how doing so has a positive impact on your students as well. I learned valuable mindfulness skills, self-regulation skills, and the importance of positive self-talk.

EDUC 1233 - Professional Dimensions II
"This course provides a foundation for curriculum and pedagogy in the areas of planning, facilitating and assessing learning. Further, it examines issues of power and justice and the ways that the economy, matters of race, culture, class, and gender ideologies, political discourses and other social institutions interact to construct the social systems that make up educational institutions. The field experience will focus on small groups and teacher candidates are expected to teach a lesson. In-school seminars may comprise part of the lecture hours."
This course provided me with the fundamental skills to create a universally welcoming space for all students that creates differentiation for each unique learning style. Within this course, I was able to construct a detailed lesson plan which I was able to execute in my fieldwork. This allowed me to expand my knowledge of the importance of preparation and patience in teaching.
EDUC 1231 - Professional Dimensions I
"This course examines teaching and learning processes with reference to psychological, sociological and philosophical influences in contemporary society, addressing the concept of personal worldview and its impact on classroom environments. The course introduces students to professional responsibilities and prompts students to develop ethical and professional attitudes, behaviour, language and conduct. The field experience will have an individual learner focus."
This course provided me with the foundational tools I need to become a competent teacher who creates a professional and inclusive environment for students to learn and grow.

PHIL 3350- Power, Violence, Evil
"This course explores topics in continental philosophy. Topics will vary from term to term, but may include themes such as desire and embodiment, anxiety and despair, freedom and choice, transcendence and immanence, social oppression and resistance, cultural and religious difference."
This course has provided me with a deeper understanding of the trauma of people who have served in war go through and the many complex levels it takes to understand what these people have endured. Although this is a very heavy topic that doesn't necessarily relate directly to teaching it has deepened my understanding of trauma and mental health awareness. This is something I can use in my future career, especially with more and more students immigrating from war-torn countries it is important to be able to support them as educators the best we can.
INST 2270- Exploration of the Treaty 7
"Taught from an Indigenous perspective, the course offers students a unique learning experience within a virtual exploratory, online format. Students will engage the history and current contexts of the Treaty 7 region and consider a wide range of topics, with an emphasis on colonization and decolonization."
This Indigenous studies course explored Treaty 7 which is the land I currently reside on. It made me understand the importance of accepting and promoting Indigenous ways of being and knowing. This course also gave me a deeper understanding of how to live parallel with Indigenous peoples as a descendant of colonial settlers and the importance of my role in my personal and professional life to recognize and respect Indigenous culture and create a community of collectivism.

PHIL 1130- Philosophy: Sex & Love
"This course provides an introduction to philosophy through an exploration of philosophical questions about sex and love."
This course provided me with important information surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community and how to respectfully approach certain topics that create a safe space for all students.
HIST 1133- Modern Canada 1867 to Present
"This course introduces students to key issues and events in modern Canadian history. Themes include social and cultural change, as well as economic and political developments. Specific topics covered may include Canada’s military participation, the Cold War, immigration and regionalism."
This course provided contextual historical information on the origins of Canada and the mistreatment of Indigenous peoples. I hope to take this information into my future classrooms to educate students on the importance of understanding our history and reconciling the many mistakes we have made to create a better more equitable future.
ENGL 1152 - Identity & Invention Intro Lit
"This course introduces the principles and practices of literary analysis by examining features of self-invention and first-person identity in selected works of prose, poetry, and drama. Students will apply close reading techniques to the imaginatively-constructed “I” in order to develop foundational skills in writing and thinking about literature critically."
This course provided me with the framework I need to create an excellent literary piece and also identify the different characteristics that make-up prose, poetry, and drama. This will allow me to be a stronger language arts teacher and have more knowledge about that subject to share with my students.

WGST 3309- Contemporary Feminist Debates
"This course examines contemporary debates among feminists in Canada and around the world. We will compare concerns about the global situation of women, as articulated by international bodies such as the United Nations, with concerns articulated by feminists in different parts of the world. Course topics will shift to reflect the continuous and dynamic evolution of feminist thought and activism in contemporary social and political contexts."
This course has taught me the importance of understanding the historical context when it comes to global movements such as #MeToo. The amount of misinformation surrounding movements like this has overshadowed or completely left out women of colour and this needs to change even in classroom settings. I want every student regardless of their background to feel empowered to speak their truth.
HPED 1040- Wellness and The Student
"This course provides an introduction and overview to aspects of holistic health and wellness and highlights strategies for promoting well-being. Utilizing a mix of theory and application, students will gain an understanding of individual well-being and the interconnectivity between individual well-being and the wellbeing of families and communities. Students will also explore community actions that impact health and well-being."
This course has given me a broader understanding of the importance of mental and physical wellness. Implementing healthy eating and positive self-talk in my classroom will ultimately create a safer space for all my students.

GNED 1103- Innovation
"Students will investigate one particular scientific or technological innovation from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Students will explore this innovation to understand the mathematics and science that underlie it, or have been influenced by it, and will discuss the role of numeracy and technology in shaping our future."
This course reflects the importance of mathematics and science in our everyday lives. It stresses the importance that we all ask questions and do our research to understand things. This course allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the scientific method and how it can be broken down into smaller parts that can make sense to the everyday person, not just scientists. These tools will help me to teach my students the scientific method in a more real-world relevancy.

NTSC 1112- Intro to Current Environmental Issues
"This course involves a current, comprehensive and holistic overview of critical environmental issues for non-science majors. The environmental issues explored in this course from various points of view will serve as a valuable and solid foundation for students, who will be making decisions that shape the future of their society."
This course provided me with the fundamental basics of climate change issues occurring in our world today and how we can improve these issues in simple and efficient ways. I cannot wait to share this new knowledge with my future students and implement some of these environmentally friendly ideas in my classroom.
GNED 1203 - Cultural Perspectives on Science
"This course introduces students to the study of science as a cultural activity with the goal of developing their critical thinking and writing skills. Students will learn to be conversant with some of the issues and debates concerning how science, technology, and medicine have shaped and continue to shape beliefs, values, and identities in our world."
This course has taught me the importance of time management since it is a very heavy course that will benefit me when I need to have good time management skills as a teacher.
GNED 1304 - Communities and Societies
"Local, national, and global communities suffer from similar problems. This interdisciplinary course will critically examine key issues within communities and societies, explore the meaning, power, and obligations of citizenship, and begin to develop the skills necessary to create positive, effective, and sustainable change."
This course has taught me the importance of listening to all perspectives to become a more well-rounded person. Students need teachers who will listen and hold them accountable for listening to their fellow students in order to attain a broader view.
GNED 1404 - Writing About Images
"This foundational composition course focuses on writing about images. Students will refine their understanding and practice of the structures of writing by responding to and analyzing images."
This course has strengthened my grammatical skills immensely which I will be able to eventually help my future students with.
