Description: The teacher is a reflective practitioner who uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (students, families, and other professionals in the learning community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Interpretation: The teacher is always reflecting on their profession and how their choices could affect their students' learning. They then reflect on those practices and adapt their own profession to meet each student.
Description of Artifact: The observation sheet was a formal observation done by my supervisor on the dividing decimals lesson. It had positive comments about the lesson as well as things I might want to consider moving forward.
Indicator: 9(L) Takes responsibility for student learning and uses ongoing analysis and reflection to improve planning and practice.
Indicator in my own words: The teacher takes responsibility for students' learning and is always willing to grow and improve on their craft.
Rationale: This is a great example of 9(L) because it shows things that went well in the lesson as well as things to consider when doing the next one. For example, one of the positives was that my supervior said that I had great classroom mangagement skills. However, one of the negatives or things to consider was that I was missing certain aspects of the lesson plan such as aligning my assessments with my lesson objectives. I went back and fixed those mistakes later on. This shows that I am proficient in Standard 9 because it shows that I am a reflective practitioner and someone that is always looking for feedback and ways to better my craft.
Description of Artifact: Certificate from the professional development about social emotional learning and trauma informed practices and building resilience.
Indicator: 9(b) Engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with his/her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.
Indicator in my own words: The teacher is always looking for new ways to develop their own learning as well as helping improve the experiences of students, schools, and the school system.
Rationale: This artifact is a good example of Indicator 9(b) because I went to a professional development that focused on how to be better prepared to deal with situations regarding social emotional learning as well as trauma informed practices and building resilience. For example, I learned about the three different responses a child might radiate during class. These being the fight, flight, or freeze responses. Later on in the lecture, they taught us about the academic mindset and gave us a bunch of tools and examples throughout. This shows proficiency in Standard 9 because it shows that I am actively trying to better myself so that I can be the best version I can be for my students. It shows that I am an active learner and that I am actively trying to excel in my craft. I am doing this by going to this professional development on social emotional learning and trauma informed practices and building resilience. This professional day gave me a better understanding that students might be going through things outside of school that might really effect them at school. This gave me more patience, empathy, and understanding for those students.
