Description: The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that allow each learner to reach his/her full potential.
Interpretation: The educator knows that each student comes from a unique background and will create a positive and inclusive classroom that will let each student reach their best potential.
Description of Artifact: The photosynthesis activity in our science in the science unit was a check in to see what students learned from the photosynthesis lesson. They were allowed to show their knowledge on the topic in anyway they found fit.
Indicator: 2(a) Designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each students’ diverse learning strengths and needs and creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways.
Indicator in my own words: Creates and manipulates the activity to let each student show their learning in the most effective way for them.
Rationale: This activity that I designed was a good example of the Standard and Indicator because each student was able to either make a paragraph, a picture and label it, or anything else. If they choose to do a different option they just had to run it by me in the classroom. This was a good way for each student to show their knowledge in the best way for them. For example, I had a student that has a hard time typing long paragraphs and writing long sentences so they were able to draw a picture and label it with things that they learned about during the photosynthesis activity. Throughout this activity I had to adjust this lesson to help support my students with IEP's who might need help typing. For those students I allowed them to draw a picture and describe what the picture with a sentence. This demonstrates proficiency in the standard because I created a lesson that was able to exploit every students’ best work. I did this by giving students options on how they wanted to demonstrate their learning.
Description of Artifact: In this third lesson in my TWS unit, students were introduced to subtracting decimals. This particular lesson had multiple extension activities.
Indicator: 2(c) Designs instruction to build on learners' prior knowledge and experiences, allowing learner to accelerate as they demonstrate their understandings.
Indicator in my words: The teacher creates lessons that build on students prior knowledge and experiences and allows students to excel on that specific content area with more challenging content problems.
Rationale: This article is a good example of Standard 2 because throughout the lesson there were multiple times where students will need extension activities. This extension worksheet covered a variety of different levels of problems and allowed for students to really have that extra practice on the types of problems they might see on their end of module exam. For example, question one and question two are both problems that students will see on the exam. In fact, most of the worksheet is full of questions and problems that students will see on the exam. It was a way for students to be able to work on what they might need more practice on.
