Description: The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
Interpretation: This standard means that the educator actively searches for new ways to improve student learning. The educator does this through multiple different ways including and not limited to, working with families, colleagues, as well as community members.
Description of Artifact: Seesaw is an application that most teachers use to communicate with parents as well as post comments on student work.
Indicator: 10 (d) Works collaboratively with learners and their families to establish mutual expectations and ongoing communication to support learner development and achievement.
Indicator in your own words: The educator uses technology to create learning communities that engage students, parents, and coworkers.
Rationale: This artifact is a good example of Standard 10 as well as Indicator 10 (d) because Seesaw allows for teacher and parent collaboration through the messaging aspect of the application. It also allows for students to collaborate with their parents by having their work posted for family members to see. This artifact demonstrates proficiency in the standard because the application allows for collaboration not just between students but parents and teachers as well as teacher and student. For example, teachers are able to leave comments on students' work so that they can change or correct something that they did on that specific lesson. In addition to that, teachers no longer have to worry about students losing or misplacing papers because the work is online.
Description of Artifact: My artifact is my fourth official observation that my supervisor completed. It had a checklist of things that I needed to show proficiency on during my lesson. There was also a comment section at the bottom where my supervisor put comments of things that went well and things that I can consider during my next lesson.
Indicator: 10(t) Embraces the challenge of continuous improvement and change.
Indicator in my own words: The teacher seizes the opportunity to improve their craft and works towards changing it.
Rationale: This artifact is a good example of Standard 10(t) because it shows that I can embrace constructive criticism and understand that as an educator you are always looking for ways to improve. For example, one thing that I might want to consider when teaching the next lesson would be adding more steps for students that might have finished early. This artifact shows embracing the challenge of continuous improvement because these notes will help improve my teaching.
