Description: 11.5 Designer: Educators design authentic, learner- driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability.
Interpretation: Teachers create activities and environments that understand each students different abilities to learn.
Description of Artifact: The Kahoot that was modified was a Kahoot about multiplying decimals. In this kahoot students had to multiply decimals by whole numbers.
Indicator: 11.7 (b) Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.
Indicator in my own words: The teacher uses technology to create a variety of assessments that are fair for all student as well as provides timely feedback for all students.
Rationale: This artifact was a good example for Standard 11 because it used a technology based program to help students learn in a fun and interactive way. For example, each Kahoot had four different answers and students had to choose between one of the four to get the correct answer. This Kahoot also had a four minute timer on it which is the longest timer you can have on a Kahoot. This allowed me to accommodate for all students by lengthening the time for each problem. I wanted to make sure that each student had the most amount of time to work on the problem. This artifact shows proficiency in Standard 11 because I was able to design a Kahoot that was differentiated in time and allowed for each student to have the maximum amount of time to work on each problem. I use this application as a way for students to get immediate feedback. This helps students learn from their mistakes as well as ask questions if they are confused on a certain problem. This gives me data on what students might need help on certain content even if they do not always raise their hand and advocate for themselves.
Description of Artifact: Students are to use the Cloudart program to create a word collage based on snow or the words from the book Holes.
Indicator: 11.5(b) Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.
Indicator in my own words: This means that the teacher creates lessons that match the content of the day and are engaging for students and allows students to show off their knowledge.
Rationale: This activity is a good example of 11.5 designer and 11.5.(b) because it was a creative way for students to show their understanding of the vocab words to the book. It was also a way to use digital tools and resources to maximize learning. I did this by saying that students had to use other words that were not on their vocabulary sheets to create a more detailed picture. For example, I had a student use some of the vocab words such as canteen and fossil. They also used names of some of the characters such as Mr. Sir and Zero. This activity shows proficiency because I was able to create a lesson around a book that I have been using as a big part of my literacy lessons and I was able to tie technology into the lesson to maximize student learning.
