The Sandjak (SAHN- djock)

The Sandjak is the traditional mountainous border between the clashing worlds of Islam, Catholicism, and Orthodoxy. This former finger of the Ottoman Empire is as gone as nearby Austria-Hungary, but it still influences the region today. A sandjak or sançakbeg was a province of the Ottoman Turks.
