The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
Artifact Description: During student teaching especially at the beginning of the year I posted these rules up. We also reviewed them daily and went over them in detail to make sue everyone understood the rules and what was expected of them. Any questions students had on the rules were also answered. After summer break students were all over the place, there were also many of them just coming to school for the first time so it was important to establish class expectations and rule so everyone knows what is expected of them from the beginning.
IPTS Connection: This project connects with IPTS Standard 3H) establishes high expectations for each student’s learning and behavior. Rules are needed in order to help facilitate instruction and maintain a positive classroom environment. This will not only help teachers with instruction but students as well.
What I learned: I learned that students need rules and actually enjoy being part of a structured class. When they know the class rules and procedures they know what to expect and this will help to maximize learning.
Artifact Description: During one of my lessons students worked on tens and ones place value . The lesson was on the smartboard and they had the counters to use while they practiced the problems as a group. They then had to complete the worksheet below as well using the counters for reference in case they needed a physical representation of what they were counting. In order to enhance the instruction students then went online to Boom cards which they had assigned work based on the lesson in order to enhance the instruction.
IPTS Connection: This project connects with IPTS Standard 3E) understands the appropriate role of technology, including assistive technology, to address student needs, as well as how to incorporate contemporary tools and resources to maximize student learning. Student independent practice can be encouraged online at different levels so all students can practice and keep practicing if they have mastered the lesson.
What I learned: Students like working online even if its educational and they will always look forward to any instructional practice making it easier for them to go online after the lesson to keep practicing. It is great to encourage them with this practice because it will only increase their skills. There are so many educational games that not only are great for practice but keep track of the skills they have mastered or still need practice on so teachers know what students need to work on.
