The purpose of education is to learn diverse material in various topics so one can be a well-rounded educated individual that will help world in the future. Education teaches kids/people about various things such as how the body functions, how other things function, how the earth functions, how everything relates, and how we can make a difference in how these things work. Education teaches us to look at various parts of what makes something what it is and use our brain to figure out why and or how. Education not only makes our brain grow but also our awareness. My purpose of education translates into my discipline because by growing my awareness and knowledge on things I can then share that knowledge and information that I can teach someone else. By learning these things and educating myself I can help someone else who does not have that knowledge to obtain it and help them grow as well. I have chosen education for this reason of helping others and seeing them learn and grow as a person. I want to be able to show kids why it is important for them to learn these various topics so they know how they work and can apply things and topics they have learned to their daily lives so they can grow personally. It is important to show kids things in a way that they understand, and I want to be able to help them in that way.
I will enact my philosophy of education in the classroom by listening to the student and using topics and tools that relate to the material but is also something they are interested in to keep their interest. Perhaps I can have them fill out surveys to find out information about them or have them bring in things about themselves like a show and tell to get to know them better. If they are into animals, I will find material that relates to and contains animals so they will be involved in the topic, if they are into cars, I will look for car-related items to bring into the lesson. Students can expect my classroom to be kid-friendly so they will want to come to class. I want them to see posters hanging of interesting things and grabs their attention. I want to display motivational material with lots of colors so they can read it when they are in the classroom, and it encourages them to want to do their best. I want to have visuals they can refer to whenever they are stuff and need a little help or a picture that can help them remember something. As an ESL teacher, I plan to grow by doing research online on how to best reach out to students. I plan on attending classes and seminars to better help me grow as a teacher so that in return I can help my students grow as learners. Specially, I would like to learn more about different cultures and how society is affecting students today. As a future ESL teacher, I think it is important for me to not only be aware of my own culture but to get to know different cultures since I will be helping all different types of kids coming from so many backgrounds. This can also be a way for me to be able to empathize with them since I will know more about them. Podcasts are also another way that I can grow because they cover so many different topics and I am able to choose topics depending on what I am struggling on such as what activities to teach certain things, or how to reach out to shy students, etc.
I expect my students to come into my classroom ready to learn. I expect them to be excited about walking in the door and seeing what the teaching lesson will contain. I understand that this may not always be the case but maybe if I see someone having a bad day or looking upset, I can use stickers, a special pencil for the day, or something to make them cheer up a bit. I expect that my students know they reach out and not be afraid to ask me if they have any questions on anything. They will know what I expect from them because I will have the rules out so that they can see them and be reminded of what their expectations in my classroom are. I want my students to develop positive learning habits, so they want to learn more. I want them to be able to relate what they are learning to real-life experiences so they can relate to things learned outside of the classroom. Overall, I want them to have a positive learning experience, so they are looking forward to coming back the next day to want to be excited to learn more and coming back the next day to want to be excited to learn more.
Book Project Describing Myself
For one of my classes I had to create a book and I decided to write one about myself expressing my journey into teaching.
