Project Between Cultures - the timbre of the Jesuit Gallery focuses on the mutual interpenetration of cultures of different nations and fields, musical and artistic works, creating a unique timbre of the Gallery - a place with a long history, a space that participated in the movement of independent culture, where art is created from different traditions and denominations. In September, October and November 2023, numerous meetings with artists from Poland, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus took place: CONCERTS with live music, an open DISCUSSION PANEL The timbre of Poznań art: from urban culture to social culture and the EXHIBITION Icon and its interpretations..
The events of the project Between Cultures: The Timbre of the Jesuit Gallery combine artistic feasts: concerts, an exhibition and a discussion panel on international and interdenominational topics, meetings in the space of image and sound art, where the language barrier disappears. Non-verbal signs strongly connect the communities of Poznań artists of various nationalities with art recipients not only identifying with a religious denomination, but also non-believers, oriented towards contemplation of cultural works. The concerts show the fruitfulness of cooperation and intercultural dialogue, as they constitute a meeting of as many as three Christian denominations: Catholics, Orthodox and Greek Catholics.

A panel discussion led by the President of the Association of Polish Artists of the Poznań District - Marek Maksimovich, with Polish, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Georgian artists, entitled The Timbre of Poznań Art: from Urban Culture to Social Culture, combined with a concert by Łukasz Wicenciak in the Faraway space at the Poznań Parish Church.
The panel responded to the need to undertake social education of the city's residents through various lectures and discussion groups. The panel covered artistic phenomena, such as street art, visual arts, murals, the art of writing icons, alternative music, performance, happening, sacred music uniting environments of different nationalities - and projects created during close cooperation between artists and participants of a cultural event, activating the potential of residents, which has its own timbre. The discussion concerned social incentives for co-creation and the participants' approach to cultural coexistence. An attempt was also made to diagnose the cooperation of Polish and Ukrainian creative communities - in the face of the refugee crisis and the role of art in coping with refugee trauma. Questions were asked about the heterogeneity of social culture. The panel was addressed to Poznań art recipients who care about the cultural development of Poznań and to people actively involved in the culture of our city in any way.

The combination of two artistic feasts: an exhibition and a concert, with a sacred, international and interdenominational theme - this is a meeting in the space of the art of image and sound, especially when the language barrier disappears (vocal pieces have simplified text, understandable to Poles and Ukrainians). Non-verbal signs strongly connect the environments of Poznań artists of different nationalities and the recipients of their art (those identifying with a given religious denomination or non-believers, focused on contemplation of cultural works).
EXHIBITION
- The experiences that a person goes through when painting an icon - have many similarities with the canonical rituals that accompany its creation. Writing an icon is a very personal process, it is reflection, conversation and prayer, which is available to everyone. What factors qualify a work to receive the title of an icon? When can we call a painting an icon and when its interpretation and who decides about it? You will learn about this at the exhibition "Icon and its interpretations" - 4.11 at 5:00 p.m. - Curator Kesauri
Participants of the exhibition:
- Members of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers of the Poznań District,
- Artists of the Creative Activities Studio (Street Dominikańska 8)
- Invited guests
CONCERT
- The concert shows the fruitfulness of exchange, cooperation and intercultural dialogue, it is a unique meeting of three Christian denominations. The artists created a joint vocal work: the Polish choir conducted by Michał Gogulski and the Ukrainian church choir conducted by Anastasia Mudrakova will perform a number of Orthodox and Catholic liturgical songs, in Ukrainian and Polish: several - one after the other, some together, hence the title of the concert: "Unisono". Production - Marta Lewandowska-Harasimowicz.
- Both choirs are associated with the environment of the Jesuit Gallery: they have performed there several times during other artistic events (most recently during the spectacle "Everything" on May 13-14, 2023). The performers also participate in liturgies celebrated in the Jesuit church (Catholic and Orthodox).
