Technology
Technology continues to change the way we teach and learn.
2023-2024: The district is planning on installing a Promethean board in all classrooms.
I use my interactive whiteboard's projector screen for showing short educational videos, including some of my instructional Youtube videos. Students can follow along with hand movements and sing as they learn letter names and sounds, practice counting, learn about shapes, etc. "Brain break" movement videos, such as Danny Go's "The Floor is Lava" are perfect for inbetween activities.
When illustrations in a book are small, I might put the book under the document camera so that it's easy for everyone to see. Once the image is projected on the screen, I might ask students to come to the board to point things out.
Things to know for TK:
Every student is issued an iPad, but I do not plan on using them in TK
I use the whiteboard projector daily, but for short periods of time. I recognize that it is important to limit the use of screen time, especially for young childen: Most children get more screen time than is recommended.
Things to know for Kindergarten:
Every student is issued an iPad, but I rarely use them in the classroom
Some district testing might require use of an iPad
Students might use iPads for a couple of lessons or activities over the course of the school year
There are many ways tha students can benefit from using headphones to listen and follow along with the children's books that I have on casette tape and CD in the Listening Center instead of using an iPad. I prefer that the use of educational apps happens at home.
