While the inclination for physical activity is built into us, we have to be deliberate about providing opportunities for PE, especially as kids get older. It is important to foster a healthy attitude towards exercise. Young people need to understand that a healthy lifestyle means engaging in regular exercise. And, to increase their chances of readily including activity as a part of their life, positive associations with exercise have to be developed.
Unfortunately, many families with independent home study students place such an emphasis on the academic assignments that physical education is often neglected. We can talk about ideas for what you can do if your student is not already engaged in a regular activity.
It is important to know and understand that each state has standards that children must meet according to grade level in the area of physical fitness and education. Pacific Coast Academy will not be keeping track of your student's physical fitness. However, in order to maintain fitness, the state of California recommends that students participate in about 30-40 minutes of PE activities a day, and I would highly encourage you to follow this as a guideline for your student.
For high school students completing a PE elective, the PE logs you will be submitting to me each Learning Period are located on the Schoology platform.
