Security duty seems easy- especially for a run-down baseball stadium.
Until THAT Guy, a mystical capybara with attention issues, makes it a personal goal to ruin Terry's day.
THAT Guy uses his powers to enchant the entire stadium, interrupting the game and creating horror-movie level havoc.
This episode came from a real life circumstance where a Padres game Maddie and Kevin attended was constantly interrupted by THAT Guy.
He was probably 22, drunk, and there for no reason but to get attention. And every time someone stepped up to bat he yelled "Who the F*** is THAT GUY!"
So yes, the crazy capybara was actually a real man!
As part of the learning tools within Liminal Summers, the team studied the relationship between comedy and horror. The two genres are just sisters after all!
The team did their research, following true horror/suspense movies like "The Shining" and horror/comedy crossovers like the Dick Van Dyke Show's "The Ghost of A. Chantz."
It led to a wonderful collision of weird and wacky, bringing this episode to life.
In the animal kingdom, the capybara is probably the least problematic animal. Which is exactly why we chose THAT Guy to be a capybara!
With help from vis dev artist Pedro Edmond, the team worked on creating the look of THAT Guy: a little schlumpy, a little loud, and a little mystical. Emma took it from there and created his final look.
For zombies to work, we needed characters to use- and LOTS of them.
Oakley designed the incidentals for Liminal Summers, filling out the world with a variety of characters that we could reuse everywhere- especially the crowd scenes in this episode!
Board artists were able to pick which incidentals spoke to them and feature the characters in various chase scenes across the episode.
