Terry and Red knock out cermonial first pitch thrower: Chikote Greystone.

But with the hopes of fans on the line, and their jobs at risk, they choose to impersonate Chikote Greystone.

All under the assumption that Chiktoe Greystone's coat is magic and will make sure they throw a perfect pitch.

Studying the Greats

Nikki and Maddie made the artists do their homework for each episode- studying Laurel and Hardy, Lucille Ball, the Carol Burnette Show... and more foundational elements of physical comedy.

While boarding, artists studied the Dick Van Dyke show episode "The Ghost of A. Chantz" to get a better understanding of staging in small spaces, and how to time horrified reactions to be funny.

From Head Of Story to Director

Nikki Chapman was crushing it so hard as HOS, that Maddie called them up and asked if they wanted to direct EP 2! It was already IP from before Nikki was a part of the team, but with Nikki at the helm they revamped the epsiode into what the story needed!

They focused on classic physical comedy to bring the episode to life. Pulling references from comedy greats for the team to learn from. The episode became reliant on timing and energy between Terry & Red.

Development - Characters

Chikote Greystone

Our ceremonial pitch thrower went through a variety of names and looks, landing on Chikote Greystone to honor the various theatre uncles of Maddie's: Orlando Alexander, Danny Michaels, and brought to life by "Uncle Benny" - Benjamin Perez.

The team explored animal variations, human variations, and followed a reference from team leadership: he's the baseball version of Adolfo from "Drowsy Chaperone".

You can even see a nod to the Adolfo reference- poodles!

Development - Environment

Locker Room to Storage Room to Dressing Room

This was the best internal environment to showcase how Big Oil Stadium had changed over time. We left hints of an old locker room, turned storage room, turned dressing room for Chikote Greystone.

We got to revisit a corner of it for EP 5 to show the way the stadium reuses the room for whatever it needs. In a way, this small corner of the universe is the heart of the stadium. It is all it has ever been and all it will ever become!
