The commitment to a goal is essential in achieving success, and it requires significant effort and perseverance. However, many individuals encounter difficulties in adhering to a specific plan or maintaining their commitment. The fear of failure is among the principal obstacles to commitment. The high expectations that individuals have for themselves can be intimidating, causing them to hesitate when committing fully to their goals.
What makes me have any credibility on discussing this topic. I feel like this is something you should listen to because at a certain point I felt I had not direction with where i was going. I had goals but they were sometimes started but almost never finished. I was so fed up and frustrated with myself, I felt like I was never impressed with my own actions. Now I have started writing my goals down and giving myself some genuine follow through. Right now I just want to impress myself with how much I am capable of. Filling up everyday is how I started doing this. I’m a full time student with sports related activities everyday of the week, I work over 30 hours a week and haven’t skipped a day in the gym within the past year. My days are consistently 18 hours long.
In addition to fear, a lack of motivation can also be a significant challenge. While people can initially feel excited about new goals, maintaining this enthusiasm over time can be challenging, and the fear of failure contributes to an individual's motivation. Distractions or disinterest in the initial goal can lead to a loss of commitment
This can bring up canceling plans made. According to the nyt “Louis, found that scheduling leisure time with friends — for movies, drinks, bike rides — can make these otherwise enjoyable activities feel like chores, which is often why we cancel them.” There is many reasons for commitment to be a struggle and everything feeling structured in so set in stone can make the followthrough that much more difficult.
Finally, commitment often requires discipline and sacrifice. Achieving a goal frequently involves making challenging decisions, and putting in consistent effort over an extended period which can be difficult to maintain. When confronted with struggles and obstacles that life brings it can make an individual question their commitment which requires discipline to push through to commit to a goal.
Despite these challenges, individuals must remain committed to achieving their goals. Recognizing that setbacks and failures are natural aspects of the process is crucial. These experiences provide valuable lessons, fostering resilience and preparing individuals to tackle future challenges successfully. Additionally, finding methods to maintain motivation and hold oneself accountable is beneficial in maintaining one's commitment.
In conclusion, the commitment to achieving success through goal-setting is a vital component of academic and personal growth. It demands persistence, dedication, and overcoming challenges, including fear, lack of motivation, and discipline. However, by recognizing and understanding these challenges, individuals can maintain their commitment and achieve their goals.
