It is my mission in life to be able to make a difference in everyone's life. I love the thought of self-talk, I love to hear and help others talk to themselves differently. I love seeing others thrive and that is where I tell you… hi I’m Bella Gilbert, I have been doing the research of self-talk.
I enjoy learning about the self-talk aspect, I have done my research and what I found is amazing. The first thing I will start with is the more personal aspect of self talk. Self-talk to me is being able to overcome and be able to move forward past the tough times. In the photo you see to the left side that is my brother and I and we have always been close, yes we have had those sibling arguments, etc. But he will always be my best friend. Him and I grew up knowing about self talk and I was asking him about how he does self talk and He was saying that he knows the side of the negative affirmations. He was saying that negative affirmations are just something that brings you down and makes you feel bad and that he doesn’t usually do affirmations.
He said positive affirmations give you more confidence and make you feel better about you and who you are as an individual. I also had asked him if he still does negative self affirmations and he said that he doesn’t really do the negative self affirmation part of self talk anymore. My brother and I used to be very VERY different people, I remember he used to be very hard on himself and call himself names, and I used to be very quiet and very to myself but very positive. I think that's where my brother and I had issues because if we think about it, a negative and a positive do not go well together. So of course as all siblings are we were budding heads all the time. We learned how to get along by just not being in each other's presence for a while. But now we are really close and we can face each other without having to bud heads. Now for my mental health aspect I was hurting every time I saw my brother because I knew he had his own battles and seeing him talking down to himself made me sad. But I am also very proud of how far he has come from then. I would like to say though being a positive happy person doesn’t always mean that I am the most positive cheerful person. There are times when I find things to be too much and I still try to push through everyday. I would love to say that for me the winter time is when I get the most sad and gloomy. But then when it's warm I don’t show a care in the world. It also depends on what's going on. But overall I do get through everyday and I always thank God for living another day. In my opinion affirmations are very important. I mainly think that positive self affirmations are the most important. I say this because when I was doing
research, experts have said that positive self affirmations help you with confidence, problem solving, better mindset, etc. But Mrs. Case was saying that “if our thoughts are constantly negative, we will surely feel more anxious, depressed, fearful, angry, etc... These are not good feelings to have and cause physiological & emotional distress.” Which can also put one as a human in a mindset that won’t set them up for success. She was also saying that “having an awareness of how negative vs. positive self-talk affects our feelings is a very powerful tool to have.” There are many different ways to view this specific topic and there is no right or wrong to this topic. But there is also room to grow and change your mindset from negative to positive.
