U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized 325 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Elydale Middle School was recognized as one of those Blue Ribbon Schools.

“This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” said Secretary Cardona. “In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children.” The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

As their website states, "Elydale Middle School is a unique school because of the way adults collaborate to help EVERY student achieve success. Faculty and staff are concentrated on student growth and development. Instruction is targeted to build on student strengths and overcome areas of weakness. We build meaningful relationships to ensure students know they are loved and supported. Together, we work to ensure a prosperous future for every student we encounter."

Delegate Terry Kilgore presented the award to the students at Elydale Middle School on Wednesday, October 20.
