FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Attention to all Lee County Parents and Students:

  • Governor Northam announced a Public Health Emergency Order August 12, 2021 requiring universal masking in all indoor settings in Virginia’s K-12 schools. This Order reinforces state law SB 1303 . Masks will be required for all students, staff and visitors while inside any LCPS building and on buses regardless of vaccination status.

  • Currently, our locality is in the substantial level of community transmission, as indicated by the CDC COVID-19 Data Tracker. We will continue to monitor and evaluate our local circumstances, and as always, we look forward to returning to less restrictive mitigation measures as soon as it is safe and legally possible to do so. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community is of the utmost importance.

  • If individuals are experiencing any of the following symptoms they need to stay home: fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, headache, cough, nausea, loss of smell, loss of taste, congestion, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, chest pain, or any other symptom associated with a COVID-19 diagnosis. Parents/Guardians will be notified if their student develops any of the prior listed symptoms while at school. Temperature screens will be performed on all individuals who enter LCPS buildings.

  • Please note that Lee County buses will only pick up students at their residence and take them to their designated schools. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the bus shop at 346-2218 or contact your child's school.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 325 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” said Secretary Cardona. “I commend this school and all our Blue Ribbon honorees for working to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better.”

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools.
