Proposal for Enhanced Medical Facilities on Interstate Trains Submitted to Concerned MPs
Koodu Foundation is advocating for a critical initiative aimed at improving passenger safety on interstate trains by proposing the implementation of onboard doctor facilities, especially in trains passing through remote areas. Recognising the unpredictability of medical emergencies, this proposal emphasises the urgent need for accessible medical care during travel.
In addition to deploying doctors, the initiative also suggests employing nurses and social workers onboard, which would not only enhance passenger safety but also create essential job opportunities within the healthcare sector. This comprehensive approach has the potential to save lives and improve the overall travel experience.
The proposal, titled Enhanced Medical Facilities on Interstate Trains: A Bill Suggestion in Parliament was prepared and sent via email by George Mathews, President of Koodu Foundation, to concerned Members of Parliament. We are pleased to share that Adv. Dean Kuriakose (Member of Parliament, Idukki) responded via email on 20 September 2024, assuring that he will address the issue as a top priority in upcoming discussions.
This initiative aligns with the Koodu Foundation’s mission to promote well-being and safety through impactful, community-driven solutions.
Smart Intervention to Address Overcrowding on Venad, Parasuram, and Palaruvi Express Trains
On 25th September 2024, George Mathews, President of Koodu Foundation, submitted a critical proposal to address the increasing issue of overcrowding on key trains such as Venad Express (16302), Parasuram Express (16650), and Palaruvi Express (16791). In recent weeks, passengers—particularly senior citizens and daily commuters—have faced severe discomfort and health issues like fatigue and suffocation due to overcrowded general coaches.
In the proposal, George Mathews called for the introduction of additional MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) services between Kollam and Ernakulam to relieve the growing passenger load. This intervention aims to offer more frequent train services during peak hours, providing a safer and more comfortable travel experience.
As a direct result of this initiative, the Railway Department announced a new MEMU service between Kollam and Ernakulam, which will commence on 2nd October 2024. This new service is expected to significantly reduce the burden on passengers and improve overall commuting conditions.
The proposal reflects George Mathews' commitment to addressing community concerns, aligning with Koodu Foundation’s mission to advocate for the well-being and safety of the public. This smart intervention is a positive step towards enhancing public transportation for daily commuters.
Strengthening Mental Health Services: Koodu Foundation Endorses Integrated Care Proposal
Parvathy Raj, Treasurer of the Koodu Foundation, has been actively engaged in a systematic study focused on mental health and outreach services. As part of her commitment to improving mental health support in the community, she launched a Google Form in September 2024 to gather data and analyze the challenges individuals face in accessing mental health care.
Her in-depth research study has highlighted the critical need for enhanced mental health services, particularly the availability of psychologists alongside psychiatrists at government hospitals. In response to these findings, Parvathy Raj submitted a proposal to the Koodu Foundation Core Committee, advocating for the integration of both professionals in public healthcare facilities and was unanimously approved by the Core Committee.
