蘇怡璇老師目前任職於中央研究院細胞與個體生物研究所,專注於研究動物體軸發育的分子機制及其演化意義。她的研究以海洋無脊椎動物作為模式生物,包括棘皮動物的海膽與半索動物的玉柱蟲胚胎,利用現代胚胎學、分子生物學與細胞學技術,探討胚胎體軸決定的過程。近年來,她進一步結合基因體學與轉錄體學的方法,全面探索發育與演化之間的關聯。蘇老師的重要研究成果包括深入解析海膽與半索動物的背腹體軸發育機制,並透過比較胚胎發育的基因調控機制,以及跨物種、跨動物門的實驗,提出脊索動物在演化過程中背腹體軸翻轉與中樞神經系統起源的可能分子機制。此研究對於脊索動物演化起源這一長期存在的演化生物學難題提供了嶄新的見解,為理解動物形態與功能的演化奠定了重要基礎。
