CONTINUING EDUCATION AND ARTS CENTRE ALEXANDRA - CEACA
The CEACA Courtyard Project, ‘Windows Into Our Community’, transformed a functional but tired, industrial-looking space into a striking multi-use outdoor learning centre. Working with community groups CEACA, Alexandra’s Community Shed, the More Murals group, community artist Jeanette Jennings, local tradespeople and CVGT work for the dole participants, the project was well supported. The purpose of this six-month program was to help local job seekers to develop new skills, make work contacts, obtain references and become connected to the workforce.
The design draws upon the history of the beautiful and historic Court House building as well as the natural landscape of the local area. A focal point is the carved clay ‘Windows’ panels, showcasing six emblematic views of the district: flora and fauna, birdlife, logging, agriculture, fish industry, and recreational water sports. The main circle window is symbolic of the significance of CEACA being togetherness, sharing, connection, inclusiveness and equality for all.
