ALEXANDRA PRIMARY SCHOOL - MOUNTAINS TO RIVERS GARDEN
This was my first ever Design Project. After the new building was completed at my daughters' local primary school, the remaining grounds were stark with no funding left to finish the landscaping. Together with staff, parents, community and kids over a period of 2 years we created the Mountain to Rivers garden. The winding path represents the local Goulburn River which you follow as you pass under the arbor displaying the school values. The path passes a number of seats made from fallen trees and wooden canoes made from local tea tree. The garden also includes a Willow Cubby, music wall and stepping stones through a forest of trees to encourage a sense of play and exploration.
"When you’re allowed to really interact with your environment: to climb and roam and dig and pluck and build and smell and explore, the natural world opens to you in a whole new way. It is a way that roots itself deep in your hands and heart, in a way that connects you to the land and lingers in your mind for years to come." - Emma Marris 'Let Kids Run Wild In the Woods.'
