Worldfest 2018

What is Worldfest?

Their mission is to promote and celebrate the international diversity and heritage of the brazos valley.

Excerpt from Brazos Valley Worldfest website:

"The festival was invited to the City of College Station’s Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater in 2009. The City of College Station shares in the belief that creating a welcoming environment for our community’s international residents and visitors will only better promote the Brazos Valley to the World.

Brazos Valley Worldfest celebrates international awareness by offering cultural displays, demonstrations, international cuisine, performances, children’s crafts, storytelling and many other activities. These activities have expanded beyond the one-day festival to include an International Film Series in the fall as well as Culture Club dinners throughout the year."

My Role

For the duration of my volunteer shift, I set up the Party Time Rental booths for the different organziations. I also spent time doing heavy lifting of large tables and chairs and then organized them in an efficient and understandable fashion. Overall, what the majority of the volunteer opportunity looked like was doing what needed to be done in the moment by activley listening and following our orders from the supervisors.

This was taken towards the beginning of my shift. The curtains and poles on the right (on the ground) were all set up and organized by the end of my volunteer experience.

What did I learn?

A significant take-away from this volunteer experience is to have an open mind. In the event industry, you never know what the day might bring and you might have to change plans and schedules due to mishaps/malfunctions. The mindset you need to have is to always expect problems and be patient and strategic with the solutions. When you already prepare for random issues, you won't be surprised or frustrated in dissolving them.
