Kite Fest 2019

What is Kite Fest?

Kite Fest is a fun community wide event put on by the RPTS Department at Texas A&M University. They partnered with the College Station Parks and Rec to create this event that consisted of kite flying, kit making, face painting, fun activities, food trucks, three-legged racing and many other things! It turned out to be a perfect day for kite flying and everyone seemed so happy with how the event turned out!

My Role

My role during this event was so simple and so fun. I spent the three hours I volunteered face painting non-stop! It was a blast! I had a few pictures to go off of, but also was able to branch out on a few things and make the design special to what the kiddo wanted!

Three-legged racing!

Me face painting!

What did I learn?

Kite Fest was such a fun event to work! I learned so much about compassion and energy and how that makes such a difference for the volunteer and event managment stand point. It's easy to get caught up in every single detail, but this event wasn't really about all the details. It was about community and fun! What I am taking away from this volunteer experience is the ability to really focus on the main goals of events and do everything you can to see them happen. The goals for this event was to encourage community involvement and have fun! So, some of the smaller details that would matter in a banquet hall, don't apply here! Leanring to focus on what really matters for each event is super important and even can simplify your event (at least in your head!).
