Ring in Spring

What is Ring in Spring?

Ring in Spring was one of the pop-up events during Spring of 2019 put on by the students of the RPTS 321 class. My Star Party team and another team in my class put on the pop-up event to showcase the newly opened Leach Teaching Gardens near the College of Agriculture. It was also timely placed the same weekend as Ring Day for Texas A&M University! There were cookies, water and lemonade available for students, faculty and families and professional photographers that graciously donated their skills for the event.

Since The Gardens opened fairly recently, June 15, 2018, there have been many events held at The Gardens. However, the greater university population does not know about this beautiful garden/venue area. So, this pop-up event was mainly to adveritse and promote the space!

My Role

My role for this event was assisting with volunteer managment and set-up/tear-down. Since this event had many people on the event managment team, it was almost overwhleming trying to nail down specific roles. But, we made it work! We all took charge when there was need and helped whenever we could and however we could. I spent most of the time setting up, handing out cookies for guests, and helped with tear down at the end of the time.

What did I learn?

This was a aesthetic and very encouraging event. I loved being able to help put this together and see all the smiling faces of fellow students, their families and faculty as they enjoyed cookies, lemonade and the beautiful Gardens. One of the significant things I learned from this event was how to effectively work with a large event management team. I mentioned earlier that this was the more difficult aspect of this event, which is still true. In some cases you can not control how teams are formed, but for future events that have this large of an event management team, you can learn to distinguish roles more precisely and effectively.
