Delta Gamma Semi-Formal 2019

What is Delta Gamma Semi-Formal?

This seems like a silly question, because we can all assume the title is pretty self-explanatory. And you would be correct! I volunteered at the latest Delta Gamma Semi-Formal on April 26, 2019. This social event, hosted at the Ice House on Main in Bryan, TX (pictured above), was an event to celebrate the year of sisterhood for Fall of 2018-Spring 2019. Every sister and their date, from freshman to seniors, were welcome to have a good time with dancing, eating Chuy's creamy jalapeño dip, and hanging with friends!

My Role

At this event, I did more micellaneous tasks. Before the event began, I spot sweeped, finished up any decorations that needed to be places and helped make sure the area was ready for the client. During the event, I managed trash, stood guard of a hallway that lead to Ronin (the restaurant in the same building as the venue), checked and managed bathroom clean up and made sure no one was breaking any rules. After the event, I stayed and cleaned up the venue with more sweeping and taking out the trash. Then a few others and I stayed a little later to flip the venue for the next event that was taking place the next day.

This is me in the performance venue area where we moved the Delta Gamma letters after the event.

What did I learn?

One of the things I felt like I learned from my volunteer experience at this event was that I lean more on the side of "oh, people are kind and follow the rules" instead of the more professional side of event planning, where you have to prepare to handle situations with people where they are not kind to you all the time and they will deliberately disobey rules and regulations. This is hard for me to handle sometimes, but being able to watch my supervisior handle them in a professional way gave me a good perspective for future events.
