There are four new items introduced in Kaycee's Mod.
Three of them are gained by completing the painting puzzles.
The last item is one-use-per-run, like the Angler’s Hook, and can be received at the Trapper map node.
The new painting puzzle items are single-use.
Once you complete the puzzle, you get one of that item. Afterwards, you can receive them through map nodes and the Trinket Bearer sigil.
The painting puzzle is completed the same way as in the base game - make the cards on the board match the painting.
The puzzles are meant to be more difficult than in the base game, with higher-cost cards appearing more frequently.
If you complete the painting puzzle during Leshy’s fight, the painting item will be unlocked when you start the next run.
You can use Ijiraq to complete a puzzle, but it only works if it is the second card placed. The painting puzzle will register as complete in the moment before it transforms.
After completing all three puzzles, the painting goes back to being the basic frame with the item taken out of it.
Choose whichever starter deck you feel most comfortable using - but note that Rare cards will not appear in the painting, so you have a lower chance (or zero chance, in the case of Egg) of getting a painting card in your starter deck when using the Mantis, Water, Free, and Egg decks.
Take the No Boss Rares challenge - again, Rare cards do not appear in the painting - so you have more chances to find a painting card.
If you take other challenges, do not take No Clover or Pricey Pelts - No Clover means you only have 3 chances to find a painting card in a random card node instead of 6, and Trapper/Trader nodes are actually useful, since you have 8 or 16 chances for a painting card to appear.
Check the painting immediately after starting the run, so you can look for painting cards at the starting Trader node.
If you don't mind dying, and you don't get any painting cards by the first battle, you can purposefully die to the battle to restart your run without incurring the reset penalty. You can also Abort Run after visiting the first node of Map 2 to reset without the penalty.
At Trapper nodes, buy a maximum of 2 Rabbit Pelts and 2 Wolf Pelts. This minimizes deck bloat, but gives you 16 chances for a painting card to appear at a Trader node, and allows you to buy both cards if they appear within the same pelt-trading-tier.
(If you only need 1 more painting card, buy 1 Rabbit Pelt and 1 Wolf Pelt.)
Hand manipulation and/or knowledge of the topdeck algorithm is particularly useful to reduce the impact of deck bloat. It's also good since pelts don't affect the forced card - you can keep guaranteeing your wincon(s) without worrying about pelts getting in the way.
Bugs
V0.2?: FIXED
Static card appears in painting puzzle, making it impossible to solve
V0.23: FIXEDNew items can be received before completing painting puzzle(s)
Receiving Wiseclock instead of Magickal Bleach when completing Magickal Bleach puzzle
fiskco: has anyone here gotten the Wiseclock item? I got it instead of the Inkpot when I did the portrait puzzle
FastVin12: Item #2: I got it when I gave leshy the ink after I had used my first one
Magickal Bleach does not work correctly on Waterborne cards (can still attack over them after they are bleached)
Changes
Weak Start removed.
Using Weak cards from the Weak Start challenge in place of their regular versions will still work in the painting.
Dialogue when giving it to Leshy:
I know you have seen such utensils before.
Perhaps you would like to use them?
Now that our wheezing wizard friend is locked away…
Take it now. I will also offer it from time to time.
Bleach only erases sigils, not innate card abilities.
You can bleach the Leaping Traps and Strange Frogs
The Strange Frogs will lose Mighty Leap, but will still become Leaping Traps on death, as that is an innate ability.
The Leaping Traps will no longer have any effects, because their insta-kill ability is from their sigil. They do not kill the opposing unit, and thus you do not get a pelt.
You can also bleach any added sigils.
If Leshy has an Avian Totem with Bifurcated Strike, and a Turkey Vulture is on the board, you can bleach the Vulture.
It will remove both the Vulture’s innate Airborne sigil and the added Bifurcated Strike sigil.
todo: go get a screenshot from my vid
You can bleach the flying off cards given flying with fan
This was done by using the Fan to give the Gold Nugget the Airborne sigil, then using the Wiseclock to give Leshy the Gold Nugget.
Bleach cannot be used if there are no sigiled cards on Leshy’s board.
Leshy only has a Rattler on his board. The Rattler has no sigils.
There are no cards to Bleach.
However, you can bleach cards multiple times.
As long as one of Leshy’s cards had a sigil before bleaching it, it can be bleached again.
This does nothing except get rid of the item.
You can repeatedly bleach the Turkey Vulture in the above example, even after it loses its sigils.
This works even if the card loses the sigils on its own. (Loose Tail or Fledgling, for example.)
If a Skink is hit and loses its sigil, you can continue to bleach the Skink.
You can bleach the eight fucking bears Grizzly Rush
It’s actually a very good strategy, since then you can use flying units.
ArisTheMage: You threw your paintbrush in the sky and it hit the god damn moon
Using Magickal Bleach on the Moon works, causing it to lose its sigils.
(Lunar Strike, Tidal Lock, Mighty Leap, Made of Stone)
Without Lunar Strike, the Moon is considered to be in the leftmost lane, and does a single regular attack on that lane.
This means that if your leftmost lane is empty, the Moon can hit you directly, even if you have other cards on the board. Not that it does much (unless you’re in Moon’s Mercy / Starvation), but good to keep in mind.
Dr. Rabbits (Ash): YOU CAN BLEACH THE MOON
TheOtherMe#7834: the moon just doesn't attack
FIXED AS OF V0.27
Weird, bleaching the moon renders it vulnerable to deathtouch but not apparently to stinky.
The Moon is also immune to Annoying. *Unknown if oversight or intentional. The Moon’s 1 attack may be hardcoded in; see the above about Stinky.
Dialogue when giving it to Leshy:
Reliable… That pocket watch never stops ticking.
Perhaps you would like to use it?
In-game description:
To the user: You will search your deck for any card and take it into your hand.
Item node dialogue:
Much like the covetous Magpie, you may search your deck for any card.
Dialogue when giving it to Leshy:
The Magpie’s Glass.
Take it. I may offer more of them on your journey.
You cannot use the Magpie’s Glass when you have no cards left in your deck.
Dialogue when attempting to use it with no cards:
No. You have no cards.
