It's out!
Official release date: Thursday, March 17, 2022!
Previously:
According to this interview, "some time this month" (February 2022), but after the ARG concluded, the official release seems more likely to be sometime mid-March.
Official expansion is out of beta!
Previously:For now, the beta seems to only be available through the Steam opt-in, unfortunately.
Since it is intended to be a free expansion new game mode, it will be available on other platforms on official release.
No, but you should finish the game because 1) it’s really good, and 2) there are spoilers in the mod.
Also, there’s a fun unlock (as of V0.24) whose solution is found in the base game.
You do need a save file, but people have accessed it with a brand new save.
If you’ve finished the game, a red skull should show up on the main menu (see the Installation page).
If you have not finished the game, you should be able to press Shift+K+M to unlock the mode. If this doesn’t work, see the Troubleshooting section for more help.
It shouldn’t affect your save, but this is still a rough beta. It’s recommended that you back up your save, just in case.
Your save is located in the game folder, which you can access by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library, then clicking Manage -> Browse Local Files.
The folder path should be something like “\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Inscryption”.
Make a copy of the file named “SaveFile.gwsave”, and save it in a different folder. This will ensure it stays safe even if the game folder is modified (for example, if the folder is deleted when uninstalling the game.)
Check out the #Save Swapping HQ thread in #inscryption-plus!
It's unknown if your progress will be kept on official release, but as long as the save file structure stays the same, it should carry over.
Save data is kept!
However, since the game may be uninstalled/reinstalled/altered when switching from the beta to the main branch, your save may be wiped, so I recommend you make a backup of the save file, just in case.
On the main menu for Kaycee’s Mod, click the “Exit Mod” option.
In theory, yes, since KM data is saved in the same file as your regular save, but some people have had issues with it transferring.
If you do lose your save, check out the #Save Swapping HQ thread in #inscryption-plus.
Some mods work, some don’t. Check out the Inscryption Modding Discord server for more help.
Not that we know of, other than uninstalling the beta and reverting to the base game.
After all, the reason we've got this beta in the first place is to report errors and work on balance. Since we're testing the game, it's important to keep an eye out for errors that occur. Admittedly, some errors are more common for some people than others - the internet curl errors are a frequent offender - but that would require doing some filtering for "what's a legit error" and "what's something that frequently appears but doesn't do much."
If you have a backup of your save from before starting the mod, the easiest way is to copy over that save data.
Erasing your save data in the game options erases both your main game progress and your Kaycee’s Mod progress.
Support Mr. Mullins, please.
I am sorry to the people who bought the game through other sites, and I’m keeping an eye out for any ways for them to access it, but even then: this is a free expansion, and this is the beta. It's an official thing, so I'm sure it'll be released on other platforms when the official release comes out. It's now out of beta and available from Steam, Epic Games, and GoG.
So support the dev or wait.
