The JRMS librarian will consider the following the criteria when adding items to the library collection.
The author/illustrator/publisher have a history of creating quality work, or new works have received favorable reviews by reputable sources.
The content of the work is educationally and developmentally appropriate for middle grade students and also appeals to their interests.
The content of the work presents a unique viewpoint on a topic or broadens the scope of topics addressed by the collection.
The item adds value to the collection because it meets an educational need, encourages student reading, or is not easily found elsewhere in the community.
The work includes information that is accurate, verifiable, and current.
The content of the work is presented clearly and arranged in a logical manner that fosters comprehension.
The item supplements or enhances existing curriculum.
The item is part of a series that is frequently read and adding it to the collection would encourage student reading.
The physical form of the material is durable or well-bound, especially popular titles that will be repeatedly checked out.
The material is accessible to a diverse range of students, including students with special needs and students who are emerging bilingual.
