Standard 5 - Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
Technology in Education has grown substantially over the years and has almost become a norm in the classroom. By using technology you signicantly promote "critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning" from Standard 5 in the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards. The critical and creative thinking is My Technology in Education classed has provided me with a large variety of methods to present educational material. Two methods that I thought were very effective were Google Forms and WeVideo.
Artifact Description: This artifact helped me get to know the student more and modify the lessons with the questions asked. The google form required the students to answer all the questions and provide their school email to ensure the student is responding for him or herself and not other students.
IPTS Standard: The competent teacher knows how to evaluate and use student performance data to adjust instruction while teaching (5G). The google form provided the teacher effective data to use to support each student better.
Learning Description: The google form was the first activity I used in my classroom to help connect my lessons with student interests. I enjoyed creating this form for which helped connect more with the students and grow a better relationship with them as a dependable teacher and friend.
Artifact Description: This artifact was what the students enjoyed the most. They practiced their calendar skills by identifying the day of the week. After picking out the correct day of the week they were sent to other activities to perform like the day holidays, today's weather, word of the day, cnn 10 and a day in history. These sections allowed students to choose and have access to the curriculum.
IPTS Standard: The competent teacher knows strategies to maximize student attentiveness and engagement (5f). Monthly calendar kept the students happy, relaxed and engaged. CNN10 was an effective to keep the students focused and attentive while listening to current events.
Learning Description: The monthly calendar helped the coordinating teacher and I fill a student's IEP. Their annual goals were tied to the monthly calendar. I plan to use the monthly calendar in my class lessons to keep all students engaged and focused.
