Being kind means to express a charitable act for the concern of others. For example, in class today I noticed a student who sat in the last row of class. As i observed her I noticed she constantly forced her vision towards the projector while the teacher was explaining the lesson. Without hesitation, I approached her and told her that their was an available seat in the front to reduce her eye strain. She freely, got up and thanked me. Better yet, her classmates noticed my action and replied: Mr. Hernandez, that was very kind of you to help the student. On the other hand, in the video Pastor Lee Jong, and his wife Chung-ja do a kind act of goodness to the community that goes above and beyond the normal. Based on a true story, they both create a drop box for abandoned children in South Korea. This baby hatch provides all the needs for all children despite any difficult circumstances. They foster care any child despite the age to fulfill their lives in a better living condition. We can say that kindness provides, unconditional love, hope, and faith.
Being born to single mother, given away for adoption, dropping out of college in the first 6 months, slept in his own friends room, collecting bottles as a form of income and pushed out of his own company due to low sales and management. Everyone has a story of failure and this apparently is part of the famous entrepreneur, Steve Jobs story. His struggles from failure was a "blessing in disguise" is what he stated. His failure from one point to another is what led him to return to his own company and make it one of the most successful and well-known company in technology.
Steve jobs sets a perfect example to students to not quit with their goals and dreams. For which they can come to reality.
If you are fearful of failure, then you won't take any risks to become successful. You never know it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Josh Hamilton has been a role model for me since following baseball at the age of 13. His story reflects to my story as being a messed up in the past who changed his life around to become the best player in a few seasons in baseball. I remember listening to his story a few times, how he became an addict and ruined his baseball career, but made u turn and found God. I could relate to his story how I changed my life around in a car accident to become a special educator in a school. We could say that his four foundations in the video are parallel to my four foundations in life: Love God, Love family, Love what you do and Be Humble.
Innovation is an idea or thought that benefits and creates value to others. In this video, former High school student Natalie Hampton had the idea to reduce bullying and promote kindness and inclusion in her high school; after being a victim of bullying. This caused her to act and make a difference to other and impacting other schools as well. She had the idea of designing an app that allows students in her school to open their lunch table and make new friends. We could say that innovation doesn't come from adults only but from students as well to make a better learning environment. This video helps students understand that they can also be innovators and have their voice heard in school.
Does Innovation improve action over reaction?
The definition of joy is an expression of great happiness or vision of having what one desires. For example, in this video a random person sees a child in the dark streets working on his homework under a street light. We could assume that in his house there is no light and takes advantage of the nearest lamp light he can find to work on his homework and school studies. When a millionaire found out about this fortunate child and student, he acted in helping him and his family out. He brought joy to Victor, the little boy by installing electricity to his home and bless him with additional money for his needs. The millionaire went above and beyond to financially bless victor’s school after finding out about the current situation in his school. This example, expresses joy after learning more about the victor’s situation. This video helps me understand that each student goes through things we as teachers haven’t encountered. Its important to be that listening ear to understand the his/her situation better. You never know you can bring joy to that student.
