The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
This is a bubble map I had to construct to show my understanding of complex cognitive processes. I made this during educational psychology while we were studying these processes and their meaning to create effective instruction and evaluation around them.
While doing this assignment, I was able to grow in my understanding of "the cognitive processes associated with various kinds of learning" and how to utilize them in my classroom (5A).
This assignment helped me grow in my understanding of critical thinking and the pathways that lead to it. I am now more confident in my ability to get students to pursue higher levels of thinking during my instruction.
These are photos from a lesson I taught about nutrition during student teaching. This photo shows that I was able to use a variety of strategies and materials to teach similar concepts, taking in to account all learning styles.
Using different strategies for instruction meets the indicator 5C which states "knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources", it is evident from these photos that I was able to do that here for all our different learners (5C).
I learned that all students respond differently to instruction, and the best way to reach all of our students is to vary our instruction as much as possible.
