The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
This is a final research paper from my Motor Learning and Development class, where we had to choose a topic of interest to us in Physical Education, I chose body-sccaling.
While doing this assignment I was able to learn more about the "theories and philosophies of learning and human development as they relate to the range of students in the classroom", specifically those of varying developmental levels (2A). I can now confidently "adjusts practice to meet the needs of each student in the content areas", being that I better understand their development (2P).
I learned how important it is to vary equipment and activities to offer access to all students, so that all students can explore the content in P.E.
This is a currciulum designed during our Curriculum design in P.E. class. Here I as able to design and present a finished curriculum or something close to what I would be able to do given district expectations.
During this process I was able to use different books, journals, and websites to further my knowledge of P.E. content and select appropriate activities/lessons meeting the indicator 2I a competent teacher "evaluates teaching resources and materials for appropriateness as related to curricular content and each student’s needs" (2I).
This is one of the assignments that really helped me pace my planning and serve as a guide for pre student teaching and the student teaching portion of my preservice learning. I feel confident I can come up with a curriculum for any level, especially elementary.
