The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.Â
This is the pre planning portion of a lesson that shows differentiation. The prior student knowledge and differentiation are highlighted.
This plan shows that I was able to "understand... physical, social, and emotional, differences, and consider the needs of each student when planning instruction" by taking observations and data from previous lessons and using it to "develop plans based on student responses and provide for different pathways based on student needs" (3M).
Through this process I was able to see the importance of having students succeed and making attainable short term goals that still help them meet objectives of our lesson.
This is a lesson during student teaching, from our nutrition unit that shows I was able to differentiate so that all students could learn and have success.
I was able to be a teacher that "develops plans based on student responses and provides for different pathways based on student needs", by knowing my students and understanding their needs, in this lesson it was the need for a visual aid, like a fake piece of food, rather than a printed sheet (3M).
I learned from offering different options for sorting and visual aids that students respond well and get more excited if they are able to grasp the concepts easier. I realized it doesn't matter if they haven't developed their reading enough to read signs, if I can vary the material so they are still learning the P.E. content I am being a more than competent teacher.
