Point-Quarter Tree Sampling
3 sampling points will be used along the ~120-meter (400-foot) transect. The tape measure used has distance in feet. Pay attention to equivalencies listed below:
Point A at 30 m = 98.43 feet
Point B at 60 m = 196.85 feet
Point C at 90 m = 295.28 feet
The transect will be oriented "south (0 m) to north (120 m)".
Quadrants will be numbered following the conventions for a unit circle:
Q1 = NE quadrant
Q2 = NW quadrant
Q3 = SW quadrant
Q4 = SE quadrant
Remember:
Use Google Maps on a smartphone to determine each points latitude and longitude.
DBH = diameter at breast height (4 feet above the ground)
Diameter = Circumference/3.14159
