Point-Quarter Tree Sampling

  • 3 sampling points will be used along the ~120-meter (400-foot) transect. The tape measure used has distance in feet. Pay attention to equivalencies listed below:

      • Point A at 30 m = 98.43 feet

      • Point B at 60 m = 196.85 feet

      • Point C at 90 m = 295.28 feet

  • The transect will be oriented "south (0 m) to north (120 m)".

  • Quadrants will be numbered following the conventions for a unit circle:

      • Q1 = NE quadrant

      • Q2 = NW quadrant

      • Q3 = SW quadrant

      • Q4 = SE quadrant

  • Remember:

      • Use Google Maps on a smartphone to determine each points latitude and longitude.

      • DBH = diameter at breast height (4 feet above the ground)

      • Diameter = Circumference/3.14159
