Starting your day with an early breakfast at Janibichi Adventures Ltd, you'll proceed on a drive to Tarangire National Park, a journey that takes approximately 3-4 hours. Along the way, you'll have a packed lunch to enjoy. After your arrival at Tarangire, you'll embark on an exciting game drive that lasts for around 6 hours before eventually exiting the park.
Tarangire National Park is aptly named after the Tarangire River, which originates in the central highlands of Tanzania and meanders through the wildlife sanctuary. The river serves as a powerful magnet for herds of plains animals during the dry season. These animals migrate from the arid surrounding areas to quench their thirst from the river's somewhat shrunken, yet permanent, brackish waters. It's a remarkable place to witness a rich diversity of wildlife congregating around the life-sustaining river.
The Tarangire National Park boasts the highest concentration of elephants in Northern Tanzania. These magnificent animals can be observed throughout the year, with herds sometimes numbering as many as 300 individuals. The Tarangire River ensures a year-round water supply, making it a crucial water source for both the local wildlife and the herds that migrate from the surrounding regions. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced during the dry season, from July to October when many animals congregate around the river for drinking.
During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to witness an incredible display of nature. You can observe a wide range of fascinating creatures, including lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, cheetahs, zebras, various types of antelopes and gazelles. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a python! The park also becomes a haven for bird enthusiasts during the dry season, with over 550 different bird species, including the Masai Ostrich, which is the largest bird in the world.
Your day will include a lunch break at a suitable picnic spot, followed by more wildlife watching in the afternoon. As the sun begins to set, you'll return to Keys Hotel Moshi to conclude your memorable day of exploration.
