After an early breakfast at 5:00 am, depart from Janibichi Adventures Ltd to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive will take about 5 hours. Enjoy a half-day game drive into the crater. After a picnic lunch, drive back to Keys Hotel Moshi.
The Ngorongoro Crater, which has gained great global fame, is one of Tanzania's major attractions and is regarded by many as the 8th natural wonder of the world. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, is home to a large population of wildlife, including the rare black rhino.
The crater is home to a large number of wildlife, supported by a year-round water supply from the highlands and ample fodder. Over 300 bird species have been recorded here, including Egyptian geese, flamingos, blacksmith plovers, ibises, hammerhead, cormorants, herons, storks, and many more.
Large mammals and plains animals inhabit the crater, including wildebeest, eland, zebra, gazelles, black rhino, and predators like lions, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and the ever-elusive leopard. Bounded by the volcanic walls, they can be spotted at very close range. Giraffes and impalas cannot be found on the crater floor; they are often seen around the crater rim. This may be due to the steepness of the crater wall or because they need to raise their heads while walking to maintain favorable blood pressure to the head. It could also be due to a lack of palatable food on the crater floor, as they are browsers.
