This design is reminiscent of retro tourism posters, I picture it being used within a tourism magazine or mailer. I used real images in conjunction with Photoshop filters to create a painted look.
Contrast: The two halves of the image create a complementary color match: purple-red, but the color of the skies between them blends the effect and establishes a gradient through the colors the eye can follow.
Repetition: The font is repeated and kept the same size to create a bouncing effect between the two halves. Additionally, each half has hints of the other within. The purple mountains side has slight red tinges on the sunny side of the mountain that corroborate with the red rocks half. Additionally, the shadows of the red rock contribute to a purple and cooler repetition.
Alignment: Both text segments use a strong left alignment to follow the edge of the canvas and the line drawn between the two images.
Color: As discussed, the colors create a complimentary harmony, with hints of each color found in both images.
