Siciliana for clarinet and piano is inspired by the valleys of Sicily’s Val di Noto; the title is reflected in the initial lilting, medium-tempo 6/8 metre. Written to reflect the undulating mountains, stunning natural landscapes and the often dark reality of living on the largest island in the Mediterranean. My intention for this piece is to evoke the many faces of Sicily - traditional folk culture, breathtaking natural beauty, the fire and rage of tectonic forces, and the sense of a forgotten home. This piece was written in collaboration with my incredibly talented friend clarinettist Drew Bloss.
This piece is dedicated to Pauline Wilson.
