Jai Martone is a multi-award-winning Cardiff-based composer specialising in music for theatre. Currently in 2nd year studying Composition and Creative Music Technology at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. (RWCMD), their versatility spans both notated music (chamber and orchestral) and electronic music (soundscape, spoken word and acousmatic). Jai’s musical style is ambitious, distinctive, emotional and unapologetic, with references to their Neapolitan heritage often evident across their work. Highlights of their recent career include being the recipient of the Welsh Music Guild's Acapela Studio Award 2026, winning the RWCMD Band of the Welsh Guards March Composition Competition 2026 for Brithdir March, and being among the first Western composers to write for Mongolian horsehead fiddle quartet players at the Mongolian State Conservatory in late 2025. Jai has created soundscape composition to underscore the St Fagans National Museum of History’s museum’s ‘Halloween Nights’ events in October 2025, and had work featured in RWCMD's Atmospheres 2026 Soundwalk. They are thrilled to be collaborating with director Charlotte Rogers on a production of Julia Grogan's Playfight, opening at Theatre503 in Battersea, London in late August. This follows work composing music for theatre including RWCMD Richard Burton Company's Tartuffe and New '26: XL Bully in 2025 and 2026 respecitvely, and a devised piece of physical theatre aimed at children (Rosie and the Magic Owl) in collaboration with the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in May 2026.
