Over the summer of 2023, My teammates and I organized and ran a summer workshop for kids in grades 4th - 6th. We learned that kids in marginalized groups loose interest in STEM by the time they reach seventh grade, so that's why we prioritize getting kids that age into STEM.
During these workshops we taught kids electrical, mechanical, then programming skills in order for each of them to build a small robot! I specialized with the routy groups that needed more attention. One thing I find special about our camp is that it was almost entirely organized and run by students without adult help!
Our group of organizers met 4 times over the course of 4 weeks to plan out every single detail of the summer workshops. This photo was taken during a dinner break!
Pictured is an example of the rovers we have campers make. Their components consist of simple circuits, folded paper, two motors, and a servo.
