Ethics of Choices & Actions is one of the seven CAS learning outcomes which are chosen when starting a new CAS experience/project. Ethics of Choices & Actions involves facing challenges that involve ethical dilemmas and bringing out the importance of making ethical decisions. Students often struggle with this CAS learning outcome.
Selecting the ethics of choices & actions learning outcome for your CAS project/experience will add choices and ethics-related questions to your CAS Questions reflection form on ManageBac that are obligatory to answer.
Examples of Ethics of Choices & Actions projects/experiences are those which involve making choices on the basis of ethics and considering how your actions might impact others or society and recognizing when something could be considered "ethical" and "unethical."
Conducting a study on ethical consumerism: Research the impact of ethical consumerism on the environment and society. This could involve evaluating the practices of companies and products, researching the impact of different consumer choices, and developing recommendations for ethical consumer behavior.
Organizing a community service project: Collaborate with local organizations to organize a community service project. This could involve volunteering at a food bank, organizing a park clean-up, or helping with a local environmental conservation project.
Advocating for human rights: Research a current human rights issue, such as gender inequality or access to education, and develop an advocacy campaign to raise awareness and promote change.
Developing a personal ethical code: Reflect on your own personal values and beliefs and develop an ethical code to guide your actions and decisions. This could involve identifying ethical dilemmas you have faced and developing strategies to address them.
Conducting an ethical audit of a company or organization: Evaluate the ethical practices of a company or organization, such as its environmental impact or treatment of employees, and develop recommendations for improvement.
These projects would all require a strong understanding of ethics and values, as well as the ability to reflect on personal beliefs and evaluate ethical dilemmas. They could help you develop ethical decision-making skills and promote a sense of social responsibility.
TIP: Don't overthink the ethics of choices & actions experiences. This is where students can get stuck. Merely ask yourself "What are the impacts of my actions on others?" or "What are some things in society I find unfair or unethical?" and evaluate or find solutions.Â
