Activity is one of the three CAS strands which are assigned to CAS projects/experiences. Activity involves physical experiences that are physically demanding. This does not mean activity projects must be competitive or sports-related, but can, for example, involve physical demand to achieve something the student believes in, such as walking along beaches collecting garbage to protect marine life.
Selecting the activity strand for your CAS project/experience will add activity-related questions to your CAS Questions reflection form on ManageBac that are obligatory to answer.
TIP: Activity CAS experiences are often paired with the following learning outcomes: Strength & Growth, Challenge & Skills, Commitment & Perseverance. Do they apply to your experience?
Examples of activity CAS projects/experiences are those which involve physical demands such as completing a run in a shorter amount of time, rock climbing to conquer a fear of heights, and doing a marathon for charity. It is important to ensure that the project is challenging for the student. Being unique and tackling an experience based on personal interests and hobbies will help the student to be motivated to complete their goal for the experience. With this said, it is important not to confuse this information with choosing an experience in a field the student is very familiar with. It is still important to challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone by trying something new.
TIP: An example from the International Baccalaureate Organization for an activity CAS experience can be found HERE.
