The decision of the IMO Assembly its 17th session agreed to establish the  UNDP Trust Fund for supporting the World Maritime University (WMU). 

In this regard, Thailand has decided to contribute an amount of pound sterling (GBP) equivalent of 250,000 Thai baht (THB) to the Fund annually since 1993.

In 2023, the Ministry of Transport of Thailand has transferred an amount of GBP 5,806.96 to the IMO for contributing WMU in 2023 through the Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP) due to the UNDP Trust Fund for WMU was no longer exist

ประเทศไทยสนับสนุนเงินทุนโดยสมัครใจให้กับมหาวิทยาลัยทางทะเลโลก (WMU) ปีละ 250,000 เป็นประจำทุกปีตามมติสมัชชา IMO ครั้งที่ 17 โดยปี 2566 กระทรวงคมนาคมได้โอนเงินให้ทาง IMO เพื่อส่งมอบให้ WMU ต่อไปแล้วในสกุลเงินปอนด์สหราชอาณาจักรจำนวน 5,806.96 ปอนด์ สำหรับผลประโยชน์ที่ประเทศไทยได้รับจาก WMU ได้แก่ ทุนการศึกษา ณ WMU สาขากิจการทางทะเลของเจ้าหน้าที่กรมเจ้าท่าและการท่าเรือแห่งประเทศไทยปีละ 2 ทุน อย่างสม่ำเสมอ ซึ่งมีค่าใช้จ่ายประมาณ 2 ล้านบาทต่อคน
