The IMO Council at its 127th session in July 2022 agreed to the theme for  the  World Maritime Day in 2023 on " MARPOL  at 50  - Our commitment go on"  in order to  commemorate the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships or MARPOL Convention in 1973 and requested IMO member States organize the events of their celebration and informing IMO. 

In this regards, the Ministry of Transport by the Sub-Committee on Organizing Annual World Maritime Day, chaired by the Director General of Marine Department has organizes the event on World Maritime Day every years in late September.

ที่ประชุมคณะมนตรี IMO ครั้งที่ 127 ในเดือนกรกฎาคม 2565 ได้ตกลงให้มีการจัดงานวันทางทะเลโลกประจำปี 2566 ในช่วงสัปดาห์สุดท้ายของเดือนกันยายน 2566 ในหัวข้อ "MARPOL  at 50  - Our commitment go on"  เพื่อรำลึกการครอบรอบ 50 ปีของการรับรองอนุสัญญาระหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยการป้องกันมลพิษจากเรือเมื่อปี 2516 และขอให้ประเทศสมาชิก IMO จัดกิจกรรมเฉลิมฉลองพร้อมทั้งแจ้งให้ IMO ทราบ  และเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ กระทรวงคมนาคมโดยคณะอนุกรรมการจัดงานวันทางทะเลโลกประจำปีซึ่งมีอธิบดีกรมเจ้าท่าเป็นประธานได้จัดงานวันทะเลโลกเป็นประจำทุกในช่วงสัปดาห์สุดท้ายของเดือนกันยายน
