The Facilitation Committee (FAL) at its 47th session during 13-17 March 2023   had unanimously agreed to elect Mr. Watchara Chiemanukulkit, Maritime Attache, Alternate Representative of Thailand to IMO to be the chair of the Facilitation Committee in 2024.

Mr. W. Chiemanukulkit began his duty as Maritime Attache and Alternate Representative of Thailand to the IMO  since  2018 after Thailand had served 4 terms (8 years) as the IMO Council member.  He is the first-ever representative of Thailand to be elected as chair of the  IMO committee.

Being elected as the FAL chair he will lead  the committee's work to address emerging challenges such as digital navigation, maritime single window system as well as the facilitation of international navigation in promoting international trade services thoroughly. 

การประชุมคณะกรรมการอำนวยความสะดวกในการเดินเรือระหว่างประเทศ ครั้งที่ 47 ระหว่างวันที่ 13-17 มีนาคม 2566 ณ สำนักงานใหญ่ IMO กรุงลอนดอน ประเทศสหราชอาณาจักร ที่ประชุมได้มีมติเลือกตั้งนายวัชระ เจียมอนุกูลกิจ ผู้ช่วยทูตฝ่ายกิจการทางทะเล และรองผู้แทนถาวรของไทยประจำ IMO  ให้ทำหน้าที่ประธานคณะกรรมการฯ ในปี 2567 โดยนับว่าเป็นครั้งแรกที่ผู้แทนไทยได้รับเลือกตั้งให้ดำรงตำแหน่งประธานในคณะกรรมการของ IMO และถือเป็นภารกิจสำคัญที่จะต้องมีแสดงบทบาทนำในการดำเนินงานของคณะกรรมการเพื่อรับมือกับความท้าทายกับรูปแบบการเดินเรือสมัยใหม่ อาทิ การเดินเรือดิจิทัล รวมทั้งการนำระบบการให้บริการจุดเดียว  (Maritime Single Window) มาดำเนินการอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและมีประสิทธิผล ตลอดทั้งการส่งเสริมการอำนวยความสะดวกในการเดินเรือระหว่างประเทศเพื่อส่งเสริมการบริการการค้าระหว่างประเทศโดยรวม
