The size of Israel is controversial because it is disputed which areas are really part of Israel. The map to the left shows Israel including the Golan Heights, the West Bank and Gaza. That area is 27,736 sq km (10.3% of the area of New Zealand). Excluding all of the disputed areas, Israel covers 20,582 sq km (7.6% of the area of New Zealand.)
